Some time ago, I was asked by a friend of a friend (that’s China…) to take some photos of her pregnant sister. She had been to see some studio photographer, but wasn’t satisfied with the results, as it didn’t look natural enough. No surprise, in China they love using a lot of props (balloons, sunglasses and umbrellas, fancy clothes and backgrounds, etc). No financial compensation was involved, but they agreed to let me use the shots as I wanted. It was interesting for me, as I had never taken « family photos » before. I used very basic equipment: my D70, 50mm 1.4 lens, SB800 speedlight + another crappy strobe I had bought for the occasion for around 12 euros, a reflector, and of course, some (crappy) remote gadget to control my flash units. I am the new David Hobby lol! I thought the best would be for me to use window natural light, and luckily, managed to find one with a childish curtain, which was enough. Apple (the friend of the friend) played my assistant, holding the main flash, while the other one was fixed to the only stand I have. I used a small fan hidden behind the curtain in this one, to make her hair flow a little… (see next photos…)
