We had a very nice day beside the river, and I was very pleased to find that patch of flowers we were looking for for the shooting. Jiang Wei Yi was a very sweet model to work with, and I quick change my mind about her, as I first thought she was not cute enough.
As you may know, people in photography look very different from in daily life, the main reason being that a photo is a « piece » of a person only, and hopefully a yummy one lol. But our brain is used to make an overwhole physical image of a person with all the information gathered by the eyes at different moments (profile view, front view, back view, in dark, in light, at smiling or serious or crazy times ie according to emotions/feelings, in dark or light, etc). That overwhole image is the strongest, and usually averages our perception of human beauty to a quite mediocre level. We don’t like someone for just one thing, but for the averages of all his/her qualities and defects. And it’s also true, that most people are not that pretty.
But many people also have at least one nice side, be it a certain angle, or expression, or gesture, etc, that can be shot and be immortalized. Plus, a professional can control light sources to hide some bothering aspects, highlight other ones, change dimensions and perspectives. So now you understand that nearly EVERYONE can be « nice » on a photo… if the photographer is aware of what he is doing. So he has to consciously leave aside the mediocre average he made himself of a person, and pinpoint the nice aspects, that he will isolate and accentuate in his future photoshoots. For example, Jiang Wei has a double chin that really puts me off, a boring smile, and weird legs. Ok, « pas pour moi » did I think, which means « No thanks, sir! » . Well… It happens that she has a very nice eyelook, can have 2 nices kinds of smiles at some times, one when you really got her into the story you made up for her to feel peaceful and wondery, and another one when she is very excited and forgets about what we are doing. She also has a very nice breast, wfact I only discovered after I convinced her to take off her shirt and only wear her bra…
By the way, it’s quite funny how sometimes you can say things with no real thought it could help, but then it is actually what worked out. Our model didn’t dare showing too much of herself, especially the part I just spoke of, so I asked her if the reason was that they were not nice enough to show, or probably very small. She reacted to that pretty fast with an « Absolutely not! » , and pulled her chemisette down, her face showing a (fake) shy look, hiding as usual a very girlish pride.
Models, after all, come to us because they like people looking at them and taking beautiful photos of them, and after that, they like showing those photos to everyone they know, and look at them themselves in pure pleasure and content. They come to us most of the time because they want something more sexy they didn’t try before, and we are the one who do that the best in the area, and we will publish them in our mag: can you ask for more? Plus, we are very kind and diligent people.
Certain features for women models help a lot to go the direction of beauty-on-the-shiny-paper: small head, V-shaped face, hair, skin (color and quality, but still, make-uo exists and solves all that) and having at least ONE nice body feature, being it breast, arse, legs, neck-shoulder-back, hands (and feet, for the fetichists).
Hair helps a lot for me, because you can use it to hide faces too wide, sides of faces which are not symmetrical, and much more (use of wind, hands playing with it, create emotions in a very easy way with out the need the model is a great actress, etc).
Anyway, here is the video. Maybe later will come some photos if I’m asked in the comments…
